Certification Course #404 (40 hours)

Course # 404 includes all of the subjects listed under Course # 101 and Course # 203, plus additional subjects that allow time for expanded class participation. Practical applications, exercises, and mishap case studies are examined in sufficient detail to identify and evaluate safe workplace procedures and precautionary measures when working with rockets, missiles, warheads, motors, high and low explosive materials, S&A devices, igniters, seekers, thermal batteries, and other explosive components. This 40-hr course includes the core subjects listed as Crs # 101 and the additional subjects shown below:

  • Course # 101 Core Subjects - Characteristics & Hazards of Ammunition & Explosives, Explosive Effects, Classification Systems & Hazard Divisions, Storage Principles & Storage Compatibility, Fire & Chemical Hazard Symbols, Fire Protection at Explosives Facilities, Transporting & Handling Explosives, Industrial Safety & Explosives, Personal Protective Clothing & Equipment, Material Handling Equipment, Explosive Operations Safety, and Static Electricity & Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)

  • Course # 203 Subjects - Standing Operating Procedures, Initiators, Munition Characteristics & Safety Precautions, Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance, Range Safety & RDT&E Operations, Procedures & Precautions at Test & Assembly Areas
